Seven town houses in the Ortsplatz Square of Steinbach a.d. Steyr display 24 life-size Advent windows. Every child has an Advent calendar at home but such a large one is rarely seen. Seven town houses in the romantic Ortsplatz Square are decorated with life-size Advent windows. From the 1st of December, accompanied by a medieval ceremony, one of these lovingly decorated Advent windows is opened daily by visitors. These are then awarded the knighthood of a “Steinbach Knight of Tradition” and are given a certificate with a commemorative photo. Surprise your loved ones with a “gift voucher to be an Advent window opener”!

Living tradition, music and old handicrafts make a visit to the Steinbach Advent a very special experience. Here you can watch master craftsmen at work and purchase authentic traditional handicrafts. The Steinbach Advent offers a varied programme, ranging from old to modern handicrafts, regional specialties, Advent concerts full of atmosphere as well as Europe’s largest nativity scene collection. Hands-on exhibition “Senses and Things”
The festively decorated Hochgasse Alley leads you up to the aromatic hands-on exhibition “Senses and Things” in the Pils Hall, where this year select handicrafts and the fragrant aroma of gingerbread and Christmas cookie baking await you in the exhibition “Senses and Things”. In the Christmas bakery, children can try their hand at baking while their parents get into the Christmas spirit as they stroll through the Advent exhibition. Continuing along the romantic Hochgasse Alley you’ll reach the Advent Calendar Village with its delightful Advent Market, Krippenhaus, Advent calendar and Advent concerts.
Nativity scenes from all around the world
Home to 600 nativity scenes from almost 100 countries, the Krippenhaus in the Ortsplatz Square is one of Europe’s biggest treasures. Woodworkers’ fare from the Lafthütte Lodge, old handicraft traditions and exciting tales about the life of the woodworkers, delightful pastries, comfort food for heart and soul are offered at the Krippenhaus on Advent market days. Myths and legends for children and adults are recounted around the warming fire in the cosy Lafthütte Lodge.
Resounding Advent
Special treats of the Steinbach Advent are the select concerts and Advent choral concerts with pastoral play in the parish church. Let the music awaken your Christmas spirit and get you in the Christmas mood!

The Steyr Valley Museum Railway connects the Steinbach Advent with the Christkindl Town of Steyr and Christkindl Christmas Post Office. Take a romantic trip on the old steam train through the wintry Christkindl region to the Advent Calendar Village Steinbach a.d. Steyr.

Perchten parade and Perchten night
Hundreds of Perchten demons run in all directions, passing through fire and smoke, across the idyllic Ortsplatz Square of Steinbach, which becomes a bubbling cauldron – a truly magnificent spectacle! With their spectacular parade, the Perchten not only keep alive an old tradition – they also dispel evil spirits and their blows with horses’ tails are said to bring happiness and health to those they hit. Even the little children look forward to watching this fantastic Perchten spectacle!
A grand fireworks display rounds off this truly impressive event. A unique show for all visitors from near and afar that should not be missed! For refreshment s, hearty food and hot drinks are offered as of 5:00 pm!
